This book documents Algeria’s transition towards English-Medium Instruction (EMI) in higher education, a shift that marks the most significant linguistic and pedagogical transformation since independence. While policy directives frame English as a pathway to global competitiveness and scientific integration, the lived realities of lecturers and students reveal a far more complex journey. Drawing on diverse regional perspectives, the volume explores how EMI reshapes classroom practices, professional identities, and cultural belonging. Organized around four pillars (systemic policy shifts, stakeholders’ challenges and attitudes, pedagogical strategies and curriculum design, and technology and multilingual inclusion), the contributions combine empirical research with human experience.
